Don't Miss Out!

Have you ever wanted to own a Picasso or a Jim Dine print? How about a Robert Indiana "LOVE" print or a Steichen photograph? Well now is the time, come to the gallery and seize your opportunity.

Currently on view is the Hartford Art School Benefit Art Auction Preview Exhibition. On the night of April 21, 2007, the Art School will host its gala fundraising event featuring an elegant dinner, entertainment, a silent auction and an exciting live auction. All proceeds from the event and the auction will benefit the new Renee Samuels Center at the Hartford Art School.

There will soon be a catalog available for download from the gallery website, but in the meantime, if you would like to receive a catalog, please email us and we will forward you a PDF.

Many items are available for silent auction and we are accepting bids now until the close of bidding on Saturday April 21. Please stop by the gallery to register for a bidder number and place your bids.

We will also be accepting absentee bids for the live auction, if you are interested in bidding on a live auction item and will not be attending the gala, you can place an absentee bid by filling out the proxy bidding section of the registration form. The registration form is available at the gallery, or it can be faxed or emailed directly to you. Please email or call if you are interested in receiving a registration form.

Lot 22 - Pablo Picasso, Untitled, 1948. Framed lithograph. Signed and numbered by the artist. 29.5 x 22 inches. LIVE auction. Estimate range $6,000-8,000.

Lot 16 - Robert Indiana, LOVE, 1982. Framed silkscreen. Signed, dated, numbered and titled by the artist in pencil. 26.75 x 26.75 inches. LIVE auction. Estimate range $2,000-3,000.

Lot 33 - Edward Steichen, Brancusi, Voulangis, France, 1922. Framed photograph. Printed posthumously by George Tice, 1984-1986. 20 x 16 inches. SILENT auction. Estimate range $200-400.

Lot 28 - Alan Shields, Sushi Bar, 1982. Framed lithograph, silkscreen and block print on handmade paper with cut-outs and hand-stitching. 18 x 18 inches. SILENT auction. Estimate range $$700-1,000.

Goldfarb Award Winners

Last night's opening of the Alexander A. Goldfarb 19th Annual Student Exhibition and Awards Presentation was an exciting event.

Our two winners received checks in the amount of $1,000, presented by the dean of the Hartford Art School, Power Boothe. The winners were honored to be chosen and to have their work purchased for the Hartford Art School Alexander A. Goldfarb collection.

Nick Kontos, a senior painting major, won for his untitled oil, acrylic and enamel painting.Emily Francois, a senior photography major won for her piece titled Strip Mall Commemorative Plates consisting of sixteen ceramic collectible plates with overglaze decals depicting the shops in a strip mall.Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the (delayed) opening and witness the exciting awards presentation.

The exhibition will be on display through Thrusday March 22, 2007 - don't miss it!

Goldfarb Opening Rescheduled

Thanks to winter storm Agatha, the opening reception of the Alexander A. Goldfarb Nineteenth Annual Student Exhibition and Awards Presentation has been rescheduled.

Our new opening date will be Tuesday February 27, from 4:30-6:30pm. In the meantime, the gallery is open our normal hours, so please come in and guess which pieces you think will be awarded the purchase prizes at our opening reception.

Mark you calendars for the opening reception, next Wednesday, February 14th from 4:30-6:30pm. The two thousand-dollar purchase prizes will be awarded that night at around 5pm.
